Chittagong port has advanced three steps in the list of top 100 busiest container ports in the world. Chittagong port is now 64th in the list of top 100 ports of 2022. A year ago the position of Chittagong port was 67th.

On Thursday (18 August) in 2021, Lloyd’s, a journal about ports and shipping, published this list by evaluating the annual container handling of various ports around the world.

Earlier, Chittagong Port was ranked 58th among the top 100 ports in the world in 2020. In 2019 it was 64th. The seaport was ranked 70th in 2018 and 98th in 2008. The port has advanced three steps in the latest version this year.

According to the report, Chittagong seaport handled a total of 32 lakh 14 thousand 548 TEU (Twenty Foot Equivalent Unit) containers in 2021, up from 28 lakh 39 thousand 977 TEU in the previous year, representing a 13.2% year-on-year container handling growth.

Secretary of Chittagong Port Authority confirmed the matter. Omar Farooq He said, “All stakeholders of the port have contributed to this progress. So it is possible. Also, the port’s success has been made possible by the government’s various measures in recent years in infrastructure development, including increased foreign trade and logistics provision.”

He expressed hope that the position of Chittagong port in Lloyd’s list will go further.
