All secondary schools and colleges of the country are opening from next Sunday (April 28). At the same time, it has been informed that classes will continue on Saturdays in schools and colleges from May 4.

A notification in this regard was issued by the Department of Secondary and Higher Education on Thursday afternoon, April 25. Deputy Secretary Mosammat Rahima Akhter signed the notification by order of the President.

According to the notification, educational institutions will be open as usual from April 28 and class activities will continue. The assembly will remain closed until the temperature is reduced to a tolerable level. Any part of the class activities that are conducted outside the classroom and exposed to sunlight will be limited.

The notification informed that the class activities will continue on Saturday till further instructions are given to meet the learning deficit created due to the closure of the class activities due to heat and other reasons and to achieve the learning results according to the new curriculum. It is mentioned that this order will be effective immediately.

Earlier, the government decided to extend the pre-scheduled holidays of schools and colleges across the country last Saturday (April 20) due to intense heat across the country. Instead of opening on April 21, it will open on April 28 as usual. Due to the ongoing severe heat wave, the ministry ordered the assembly of government primary schools to be closed for the time being.

After that, due to severe heat, the classes of affiliated colleges of National University were declared closed. It was also informed that the classes in the affiliated colleges of the National University will remain closed until further notice.

Besides, Dhaka University (DU) and Jagannath University (JOB) decided to take classes online due to intense heat. Besides, Jabi has postponed all kinds of exams for this week
