Dhaka: Monir Hossain alias Golden Monir has been acquitted by the court in the Arms Act case of Bhatara Police Station of the capital. Former judge of Dhaka No. 1 Special Tribunal. He was acquitted by Asaduzzaman’s court.

This judgment was given on February 5 this year. However, the matter of the verdict was kept secret until now. Tapas Kumar Pal, Additional Public Prosecutor of the said court, confirmed the matter on Thursday (February 25).

On November 20, 2020, RAB surrounded Monir’s house at Badda in the capital. 600 pieces of gold jewelry, foreign pistols, alcohol, a large amount of coins of 10 countries and cash of 1 crore 9 lakhs were seized from that house by raiding for 8 hours till noon on November 21.

Golden Monir was then sent to jail after a 27-day remand in three separate cases under arms, special powers and drug laws. Besides, a case was filed alleging acquisition of wealth beyond the known income. Meanwhile, the CID’s investigation into the money laundering case has not been completed. The remaining two cases are at the stage of taking evidence.

On January 20, 2021, Inspector Abdul Malek of Gulshan Division of DB filed the charge sheet in the arms and drug case in the CMM Court of Dhaka. Judge KM Imrul Kayesh of the No. 1 Special Tribunal of Dhaka ordered the trial to begin by framing charges against them on April 25 that year.

After three years, after the testimony of 16 witnesses for the state, the court acquitted him.
