World Malaria Day is observed on April 25 every year to raise health awareness. South and North among the 64 districts of Bangladesh–There is an outbreak of malaria in 72 upazilas of 13 districts along the eastern border. Among them is the mountain Rangamati, Bandarban and Khagrachari are identified as malaria prone areas and Cox’s Bazar as medium malaria prone areas. However, the effect of malaria has reduced a lot compared to earlier.
Malaria Day was first observed in Africa on 25 April 2001. World Malaria Day was proposed at the 60th session of the World Health Assembly in 2007. Since then the day has been celebrated on 25 April every year.
Chittagong District Civil Surgeon Md. Elias Chowdhury told Daily Azadi, The prevalence of malaria is not high in the upazilas of Chittagong. However, malaria patients are occasionally found in the hilly areas bordering Phatikchari and Chandanish. We have adequate preparations to prevent malaria. Necessary medicines are also stocked at the government level.
