The court sentenced 14 people including Awami League leaders to life imprisonment in the case of killing a leader of Comilla Adarsh ​​Sadar Upazila Chhatra Dal.

Comilla Additional District and Sessions Judge Nasreen Jahan announced the verdict in the presence of 11 accused on Monday, said the counsel for the state (PP) Zahirul Islam Salim.

The person sentenced is Comilla Adarsh ​​Sadar Upazila Awami League vice-president and former chairman of Kalir Bazar Union Parishad. Sekander Ali, General Secretary of Union Volunteer League Saiful Islam, Md. Kamal Hossain, Md. Shaheen, Md. Saddam Hossain, Abdul Quader, Md. Ibrahim Khalil, Zainal Abedin, Mofiz alias Mofiz Bhandari, Md. Kauchar, Md. Riyaz, Md. Billal, Anwar Hossain and Mehdi Hasan alias Rubel.

Kaushar, Riaz and Billal were absent when the verdict was pronounced. The convicts are residents of different villages of the same union.

Deceased Parvez Hossain Ripon (30) son of Mobin Mia of Kamalapur village of Kalir Bazar Union of Adarsh ​​Sadar Upazila. He was joint secretary of Kalirbazar Union Chhatra Dal.

Regarding the case, PP Zahirul Islam said that on the night of June 10, 2020, Mofiz Bhandari chased Parvez on the way from Kalirbazar to Kamalapur of Adarsh ​​Sadar Upazila on the charge of robbery. Parvez took refuge in a garden house on the banks of the Dighi in Kamalapur. He was severely beaten there.

He said that after receiving information from the National Emergency Service 999, the police went to the spot and rescued Parvez and took him to Comilla Medical College Hospital where the doctor declared him dead.

In this incident, SI Mahbubur Rahman of Kotwali Model Police Station filed a case against unknown persons as the plaintiff.

After the testimony, 14 people were fined 10,000 taka in addition to life imprisonment; If they do not pay, they will have to spend another five years in prison, said Zahirul Islam, a lawyer for the state.

The accused’s lawyer Syed Nurur Rahman said that he will appeal to the high court if he gets the copy of the verdict.
