The interrogation of Touhidul Islam Chowdhury, the plaintiff in the murder case of popular actor Sohel Chowdhury and the deceased’s brother, has ended. The tribunal fixed the next date of hearing on September 7.

On Sunday (September 4), in the court of Judge Zakir Hossain of Dhaka Speedy Trial Tribunal-2, Touhidul Islam Chowdhury was examined on behalf of the last three accused Ashish Roy Chowdhury alias Bottle Chowdhury, Tariq Saeed Mamun and Farooq Abbasi. After that, the judge fixed September 7 for the next testimony.

Additional Public Prosecutor of the concerned tribunal Sadia Afrin Shilpi gave this information.

Earlier, after almost 24 years of the case, on August 28, Sohail Chowdhury Bhai testified in the court. The accused in the case are – businessman Aziz Mohammad Bhai alias Abdul Aziz, Trumps Club owner Afaqul Islam alias Bunty Islam, Salim Khan, Sanjidul Islam Imon and Ashish Roy Chowdhury alias Bottle Chowdhury, Tariq Saeed Mamun, Haroon Or Rashid alias Leather Litton alias Boss Litton, Adnan Siddiqui and Farooq Abbasi.

It should be noted that on December 18, 1998, Nayak Sohail Chowdhury was shot dead by terrorists under the Trumps Club in Abedin Tower, Road No. 17, Banani. In that incident, Sohel Chowdhury’s brother Touhidul Islam Chowdhury filed a murder case at the capital’s Gulshan police station. After the investigation of the case, on July 30, 1999, Assistant Police Commissioner Abul Kashem Bepari filed a charge sheet against 9 people.

On October 30, 2001, the Third Additional Metropolitan Sessions Judge Court of Dhaka framed charges against the accused. Two years later, the case was sent to Dhaka Speedy Trial Tribunal No. 2 for speedy disposal of the case.

In the same year, an accused filed an application in the High Court to quash the case. In view of that application, the trial of the case was suspended since 2003 by order of the High Court The suspension was lifted in 2015. Seven years later, on February 27, when the case file was returned to the judicial court, the judicial court took the initiative to begin the process of taking evidence.
