Sylhet: The court sentenced an accused named Muhammad Ali (40) to life imprisonment in a drug case in Sylhet.

Judge Prashant Kumar Biswas of Sylhet’s Special District and Sessions Judge (Public Safety Tribunal) gave the verdict on Tuesday (September 20).

Convicted Mohammad Ali is a resident of Agiya Bazar Purbadhala area of ​​Netrakona district in Mohisab. He is currently absconding.

Besides, the other accused in the case, Liton Mia, was acquitted as the charges against him were not proved.

Special Public Counsel (PP) of Sylhet Public Security Tribunal. Mafur Ali confirmed this information.

Citing the case, he said, on November 13, 2013, a team of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB-9) arrested four people along with 400 grams of heroin from Gulshan Hotel in Sylhet Nagar.

In this incident, RAB’s then Sub-Inspector (SI) Zahidur Rahman filed a case accusing four people under Narcotics Control Act at Kotwali Model Police Station in Sylhet.

After the investigation, on January 20, 2014, Muhammad Ali and Liton Mia were accused and a charge sheet was submitted to the court.

After taking the testimony of 10 witnesses in a long hearing, the judge announced the verdict in this case on Tuesday.
