Ministers and MPs can influence votes

According to several EC sources, at one stage of the discussion in yesterday’s meeting, it came up that if action is taken against the minister-parliament members, the concerned official will have to face some kind of punishment after the vote. According to sources, some expressed fear that the situation may worsen due to internal conflicts of Awami League. The issue of BNP not participating in the election also came into discussion. According to EC sources, after discussions with the field administration, the Election Commission held an informal meeting on the issue of influence of parliamentarians and ministers. There was a discussion about what to do in this regard. A letter may be sent to the Speaker of the National Assembly requesting that the members of parliament follow the code of conduct for the upazila parishad elections.
