Dhaka, September 9, 2022 (BSS): Speaker of Jatiya Sangsad Dr. Shirin Sharmin Chowdhury said that gender equality is important for both men and women.
He further said that gender equality is a prerequisite for vibrant democracy and sustainable and balanced development. No democracy can succeed without adequate representation of half the population. Therefore, it is necessary to ensure the participation of both men and women in the legislature.
Speaking at an event in Tashkent today, Dr. Shirin Sharmin Chowdhury said these things.
On the second day of ‘Speakers of Parliament’s 14th Summit’ (14SWSP) held under the theme ‘Parliamentary Leadership: Anticipating Risks to Better Deliver Sustainability and Prosperity’, Bangladesh National in the session titled ‘Without Gender Sensitive Parliament Gender Responsive Law Why Not Be Adopted’ The Speaker of Parliament was speaking.

Speaker Dr. Shireen Sharmin said, all lawmakers and non-gender responsive parliaments must be educated and educated on the need and importance of adopting gender equality laws. He also mentioned that one of the responsibilities of parliamentarians is to ensure gender equality based laws.
In that session, the Speaker said that the Parliament is the most suitable institution for making laws based on gender equality. Achieving the Sustainable Development Goals requires gender equality legislation to bring about long-term equality, democracy and peace.
He also said that laws to protect women from violence, laws to prevent child marriage, laws to prevent dowry, provision of day care centers for working women and many other groundbreaking initiatives are being adopted in national parliaments of different countries around the world.
He said that gender equality, women’s rights and women’s empowerment should not be restricted. The participation of men and women in every sphere of life, including parliament, is indispensable for the greater benefit of humanity.
Chairwoman of the Senate of Uzbekistan, Tanzila Narbiva, chaired this session, President of the Senate of Zimbabwe, Mabel M. Sinomona, Speaker of the Council of the Republic of Belarus, Natalia Kosanova, Speakers of the national parliaments of different countries gave their valuable speeches and members of parliament and other eminent persons participated in the question-and-answer session. Members of Parliament of Bangladesh Sagufta Yasmin, Parveen Haque Sikder and Adiba Anjum Mita, Ambassador of Bangladesh to Uzbekistan Jahangir Alam, Secretary of Bangladesh National Parliament Secretariat KM Abdus Salam, Joint Secretary Sumia Khanom and Sergeant at Arms Mia Mohammad Naeem Rahman participated in the summit.
Various dignitaries and international media personnel were present in this session.
