Dhaka: Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) Mayor Barrister Sheikh Fazle Noor Tapas has assured to stand by the family of Mahin Ahmed, who was hit by a corporation’s garbage truck in the capital’s Mugaday. He announced that strict action will be taken against the culprits in this accident.

Mayor Tapas Corporation visited the victim’s house on Friday (April 26) evening to express his condolences and sympathies to the family of Mahin Ahmed, a school student who was hit by a garbage truck. Mayor Tapas later spoke to the media.

Sheikh Tapas said, ‘Yesterday at around 9 o’clock in the night, the little boy Mahin was killed when the corporation’s waste vehicle met with an accident while transferring waste from the interim waste transfer center of Ward No. 6 in Mugadar. We are deeply saddened by this accident. We attended the funeral. We have no words to comfort parents in the loss of a young child. We will be with the family of the deceased.’

Stating that fair trial will be ensured in this accident, Dhadsik Mayor said, ‘A case has been filed in this accident. We are asking for stricter and stricter punishment. We want to ensure that there is a complete and fair trial in this accident. One thing to note is that our designated driver was not driving the car, but the car was being driven on hire. We will not tolerate such irregularities in any way. Stricter administrative measures will be taken in this case. Dhaka South City Corporation will take strict action against all those involved in such activities. We have taken strict action in such incidents before. Those involved have been fired and retrenched. I have appointed many new regular drivers. So last 2 years there was no accident by corporation vehicles. We are deeply saddened by this unfortunate accident yesterday. This time also we will take strict measures so that such accidents do not happen again.’

At this time, among others, the chief executive officer of the corporation. Mizanur Rahman, Transport General Manager. Haider Ali, Chief Waste Management Officer Mohammad Nasim Ahmed, Executive Engineer of Region-2 Saiful Islam, Councilor of Local No. 6 Ward. Local Awami League leaders including Sirajul Islam Bhatti, reserved seat councilor Maqsuda Shamsher were present.
