The death of a young man stuck in the tubewell pipe in Chapainawabganj
Md. Asadullah, Chapainawabganj: [২] Mentally challenged Roni Burman (23) trapped in the pipe of an abandoned tubewell in Nachol upazila was rescued dead after five hours by fire service personnel.
[৩] The fire service personnel were carrying out rescue operations from 11 am on Friday. Roni’s frozen body was recovered around 4:30 pm. The incident took place in East Nizampur-Hindu Para village of Nizampur Union of Nachol Upazila. Deceased Roni Burman is the son of Chaitanya Burman of the same village.
[৪] Locals said that as the water level of BMDA’s Gavir tubewell has gone down, another Gavir tubewell was installed a few days ago, as a result of which the previous one was abandoned. Roni Burman fell into the pipe of that abandoned tubewell. Ataur Rahman, a local resident of Nachal, said that Roni Burman is mentally challenged. BMDA is trapped in the abandoned tube well pipe while playing as usual. The fire service worked to rescue him.
[৫] Officer-in-charge (OC) of Nachol police station. Tarekur Rahman and officer-in-charge of the fire service station, Entazul Haque, said that the staff of Chapainawabganj Sadar and Nachol Fire Service rescued Roni Burman in a dead state after about 5 hours of effort. Roni Burman, a mentally challenged youth used to roam around that area in Govir Nalkup. In the morning, when he approached the abandoned 110 feet deep tubewell pipe, he fell. At that time, some farmers in the field came to drink water from the tubewell, they heard the boy’s cry and told everyone, the fire service was informed.
