Chittagong: 1 crore 69 lakh 80 thousand cigarettes of different brands were found in a container that arrived at Chittagong port in the name of Zhong Shin Textile Industries Limited of Savar’s Dhaka EPZ. The taxable value of which is Tk 1 crore 19 lakhs.
7 crore 13 lakh taka has been attempted to evade revenue.
Deputy Commissioner of Audit Investigation and Research (AIR) branch of Chittagong Custom House. Saiful Haque confirmed this to BanglaNews.
He said that the container arrived at the port under the declaration of ‘Textile Dye (Dye) Staff’ from China. AIR Branch under risk management analyzes the exporter, country of manufacture, type of business and address of the importer, nature of the product and preliminarily detects the issue of false declaration in the shipment. Then on Monday (September 5) the container was forcibly kept down and subjected to 100% manual testing.
In order to get cigarettes of Mond (Nano), Mond (Super Slim), Cavello Pure etc. brands. With the efforts of the AIR branch of the Custom House, it has been possible to stop the evasion of 7 crore 13 lakh taka.
The official said that the Commissioner of Custom House has ordered to identify the culprits and ensure strict and exemplary punishment.
