April is the hottest month in the country. Every year the temperature in this month is somewhat bearable but this April is much hotter than the previous month. One reason for this is the lack of rain for a long time and climate change. This is the hottest weather in the country’s 58-year history. Temperature exceeds 42 degrees Celsius. Rajshahi city is the hottest among the northern districts of the country. This year’s temperatures have gone downright unbearable as huge trees have been cut down in the name of urbanization and highway renovation. Which has a negative impact on Rajshahi University, one of the country’s universities. For a long time there was an outbreak of various water borne diseases including jaundice, typhoid, diarrhea in the campus. In this situation, the risk has increased due to such heat. All the educational institutions of the country took the decision to physically close the classes for a few days by adopting awareness in the summer. But the Rajshahi University administration has canceled the summer vacation despite issuing a heat alert in the country due to intense heat. This decision has put students at greater risk. The aim and purpose of the holiday was to protect students from heatstroke but it turned out to be the opposite. The summer holidays have been coordinated with the upcoming Eid-ul-Azha. This is an irrational decision. Every day people are dying of heat stroke somewhere in the country, students are quite appalled by this. In such a situation, the university administration should consider the students and take online classes, or maintain the summer vacation. Otherwise students’ lives may be endangered. I am drawing the attention of the university administration in this regard.
