Dhaka: Election Commissioner Md. Alamgir said that if the population of Dhaka increases, the number of seats in the National Assembly will increase. And if it is less than before, the number of seats will also decrease.

He said this to reporters at his office in the election building on Sunday (04 September).

Former EC Secretary Alamgir said that the boundaries will be redefined after the population report is received. I have started domestic work. Currently collecting data, how many seats, how many voters, etc. When the Bureau of Statistics gave the final report, they gave a report. But we have asked for union, ward and district wise giving. They gave district wise reports.

He said, the law states that administrative integrity should be given priority. Then the issue of population should be brought up. But at some point the issue of population may come into consideration. Collecting information. Analysis has not started yet. The population that I have seen is 5 lakh 50 thousand per seat. It doesn’t change much. Maybe two should be changed to one. I haven’t tested any replacements yet.

Election Commissioner Alamgir said, currently there are 20 seats in Dhaka. If the population increases, it will increase. It will decrease. However, the rearrangement does not seem to be much.

In February 2013, the Election Commission headed by Kazi Rakibuddin Ahmed made major changes in the boundaries of the parliamentary seats. At that time the boundaries of 25 parliamentary constituencies were changed. The constituencies are – Nilphamari- 3 and 4, Rangpur- 1 and 3, Kurigram- 3 and 4. Sirajganj- 1 and 2, Khulna- 3 and 4, Jamalpur- 4 and 5, Narayanganj- 4 and 5, Sylhet- 2 and 3, Moulvibazar- 2 and 4, Brahmanbaria- 5 and 6, Comilla- 6, 9 and 10 and Noakhali- 4 and 5.
