Onda BJP MLA Amarnath Saka has created a new controversy by threatening to take over all Trinamool-run gram panchayats in Bankura’s Onda assembly constituency after the Lok Sabha polls. Amarnath Shakha, who attended a party meeting in Onda Ratanpur on Wednesday evening, said, “After the 2024 Lok Sabha elections are over and the results are declared on June 4, we will take over the Chor Trinamool-run panchayats in the area. No one has the power to stop it.”

Amarnath, the BJP MLA from Onda and BJP’s Bishnupur organizational district president, has been involved in controversies at times, sometimes condemning ‘tying Trinamool leaders to trees’ and sometimes warning of ‘beating Trinamool leaders away’. This time, in the face of the Lok Sabha polls, the threat of panchayat capture was heard in his voice. “It started in 2019,” Amarnath Shakha said on Wednesday evening in the presence of BJP’s Bishnupur Lok Sabha candidate Soumitra Khan on stage. This time after the Lok Sabha polls, we will capture the village panchayats run by Chor Trinamool on June 4. No one has the guts to stop us.” He added, “The BJP is breathing down the neck of the Trinamool-run Gram Panchayats in Onda Assembly in terms of seat numbers. After capturing the panchayats, our job will be to deliver the philanthropic projects sent by Modi to the local people. After that he said, “This comment is not provocative. After June 4, the Trinamool office will not be available to open the lock. Then we have to run the Gram Panchayats. That’s why I said this.”

Trinamool criticized Amarnath’s speech from the stage. Bishnupur Lok Sabha Trinamool candidate Sujata Mandal said, “The educational qualification of that MLA is very low. So he made such comments. In fact, as the polls are approaching, the BJP is realizing that the defeat is certain. Hence the frustration within the BJP is growing. It is because of that frustration that such statements are made by BJP leaders.
