International Desk: The long-delayed military aid package has finally passed the US Senate. There are 4 bills in this $95 billion package.
Three bills call for military aid to Ukraine, Israel and Taiwan. And the rest of the bill has provisions to ban the Chinese app TikTok in America.
US Democrats as well as Republicans support Ukraine over Russia’s military campaign.
However, they are not willing to help Kiev with money. In this situation, the military aid bill has been stuck in the US Senate for more than 6 months.
Finally, last Saturday, the lower house of the US Parliament voted together in favor of the foreign aid package. On Tuesday, which was passed by the vote of 79 members. The bill will become law only if President Biden signs it on Wednesday.
Chuck Schumer, the majority leader of the US Senate, said, ‘America is sending a message to the world today after long hard work and various oppositions. Tell the allies, we are on your side. Opponents, don’t try to mess with us. The bill is one of the most effective measures to protect the security and democracy of the Western world, including America.
Ukraine is getting $61 billion from the $95 billion US aid package. In addition, the United States has promised $620 million in arms aid to Ukraine. The Ukrainian president thanked America and Britain for the new support.
Meanwhile, $26 billion of the aid package is earmarked for Israel. The announcement of new aid comes amid worldwide criticism of the Gaza invasion. However, $9.1 billion of the allocated funds will be spent on humanitarian aid to Gaza.
US allies in the Asia-Pacific region, including Taiwan, will receive $8.1 billion. Such a move is to prevent Chinese dominance in the South China Sea. Also, the package contains a provision through which the United States can impose a ban on TikTok.
