The New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) will set up six control rooms to check waterlogging during the monsoon season, officials said on Thursday.

NDMC member Kuljit Singh Chahal reviewed the measures taken against monsoon during the day and said that the drainage work of the existing drainage system in the NDMC area would be completed by June 30.

The control rooms will be located at Sangli Mess, Khan Market, Netaji Nagar, Malcha Marg, Mandir Marg and Hanuman Road Drainage Service Centers and will be equipped with portable pumps and generator sets, trucks, equipment for the convenience of duty staff and manpower, he said.

Last year, the control room received a total of 300 complaints of flooding.

Chahal said the NDMC has identified five points vulnerable to water stagnation – Africa Avenue, Baba Kharak Singh Marg, Panchkuian Road, Purana Quila Road and Lodhi Estate.

The sites have permanent water pumps and generator sets to avoid waterlogging

The district has 14 drainage systems, with a horizontal drainage line length of 270.82 km.
