Shield: Jhalkathi-Barisal route bus service has been stopped to protest the beating of Jhalkathi bus workers and to demand the safety of the workers.

Jhalkathi Inter-District Bus and Minibus Workers Union started the strike from 12 noon on Wednesday (September 21).

Due to the sudden bus strike, the passengers have to pay extra fare to go to their destination by other vehicles. Passengers on the Jhalkathi to Barisal route are in trouble.

Habibur Rahman Habib, President of the District Bus and Minibus Workers’ Union, said that around 11:00 noon, the workers of Rupatali Bus Terminal attacked bus workers of Jhalkathi in a group centered on the parking of vehicles at Rupatali Bus Terminal. Some workers were injured. In protest of this incident and to demand safety, the Jhalakathi-Barisal route bus service was stopped. After this incident, the union leaders called an immediate meeting and called an indefinite bus strike.

The labor leaders alleged that Barisal’s Rarupatali Bus Owners Association is always perpetrating torture on Jhalkathi Owners Association and workers. Incidents of workers being beaten up are also frequent. Due to the lack of safety of drivers and workers, the bus service has been stopped indefinitely.

Meanwhile, Nasir Uddin, Joint Secretary of Bus and Mini Bus Owners Association, said that efforts are being made to solve the problems that have arisen with the workers. The bus service will start only after the problem is resolved.
