Taiwan Rocked By Earthquakes Again More Than 1100 Aftershocks Since April 3

Taipei: Taiwan was rocked by two earthquakes late at night. At 2:21 a.m. local time, the first strong earthquake shook Hualin County on the east coast. The magnitude of the quake was 6.1 on the Richter scale. Moments later, another tremor was felt, measuring 5.8 on the Richter scale. No casualties or damages have been reported so far. Taiwan’s Central Weather Administration (CWA) said the epicenter was 23 kilometers north and northwest of Hualin County Hall, at a depth of 24.9 kilometers in the Philippine Sea. The second tremor also occurred at a depth of 18.9 km in the Hualin Coastal Sea. The strongest tremors were felt in Hualin, Yilan, Nantou, Hsinchu, Taichung, Taoyuan and New Taipei. Taiwan has seven levels of earthquake intensity, today it was at level four. In addition, tremors are also felt in Miaoli, Taitung, Yunlin and Chiayi. It is said that the intensity was at the third stage. Tremors were felt almost everywhere in Taiwan. It has been reported that two earthquakes occurred in a gap of only half an hour. It is not yet clear how much damage has been done in these two consecutive earthquakes.

The next morning, another 5.8 magnitude earthquake struck. Not only that, tremors have been felt there for the past few days. A total of 14 people have lost their lives so far.
