Sumi Akhter (30), wife of the police officer who poured kerosene on her body and set her on fire, died on Dasmina in Patuakhali. He died on Wednesday (September 21) around 11 pm while undergoing treatment at the Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery in Dhaka.
Sumi Akter is the wife of Sahidul Alam, Sub-Assistant Inspector (ASI) of Dasmina police station.
Earlier, Sumi Akhtar poured kerosene on her body and set her on fire in a rented house near Dasmina police station around 2.30 am on Tuesday. More than 50 percent of his body was burnt.
Later the locals rescued him and took him to the hospital. As his condition was critical, he was taken to Barisal Sher-e-e Bangla Medical College Hospital for better treatment that night. When his condition deteriorated there, he was sent to Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery in Dhaka. He died there on Wednesday night while undergoing treatment.
Sahidul Alam and his wife Sumi Akhter’s house is in Mathbaria upazila of Pirojpur district. They had no children. Because of this, wife Sumi Akhtar used to behave abnormally from time to time out of frustration.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Dasmina Police Station. Mehedi Hasan said, Sahidul’s wife died at Dhaka’s Sheikh Hasina Burn Institute while undergoing treatment. His body was taken to Pirojpur Mathbaria.
