The rate at which the price of fodder is increasing day by day. Farmers and farm owners of Hatia Upazila of Noakhali said that many people are thinking of closing the farm. A big syndicate is working behind the increase in the prices of these things, the entrepreneur complained. However, instead of going for market-based food or artificial food, the upazila livestock officer advises to produce raw grass and feed hay.

According to the information of Hatia Upazila Livestock Officer office, the number of dairy farms here is more than 200. 14 of these are registered. And there are many goat farms.

It has been seen in the local market that husk price is 2 thousand 50 taka per bag, Khail 3 thousand 300 taka per bag, zinc 10 liter price is 1 thousand 800 taka and calcium 10 liter price is 1 thousand 700 taka. It has been seen in Hatiya’s various cattle farms on the surface, the farms which were big in the beginning have now started to become small due to various problems including cow feed. Farmers said that the increase in the price of cow fodder in the last 5 years is very excessive.

Abdul Quader, the supervisor of Wasi Agro Farm in Burirachar Union of the upazila, said that the price of cows does not match with the increase in the price of cow food, the cost of generator fuel and the cost of labor without access to electricity. There were 70 cows, now there are only 25. He said that he is not getting any support from the Department of Livestock.

Rubel Chowdhury, the owner of Chowdhury Dairy Agro Form of Bejugalia village of Tamroddi Union, said that the price of cow feed which was 700-800 taka per bag last 5 years has increased two and a half to three times. Cow’s milk is sold at Tk 70 per liter, same as 4 years ago. But the price of Guru’s food is increasing every day. This entrepreneur said that a big syndicate is working behind the price increase.

Hatia Upazila Livestock Officer Dr. Jamrul Islam said, like every year, there are more cows and goats than the demand for this Eid. The price of cow is a bit higher due to various reasons. Raw grass production and hay feeding is quite safe for animals instead of market based feed or artificial feed.
