Body of EB student recovered in Meherpur, family claims murder

The body of a student of Gangni Islami University (EB) was recovered in Meherpur. The family claims he was murdered.

Deceased Nishat Tasnim Urmi was a 2017-18 academic year student of folklore studies department.

Gangni Police Station Sub-Inspector (SI) Shaheen confirmed this information to The Daily Star.

He said, ‘Police recovered his body from Meherpur’s Gangni Health Complex on Thursday night. The body was recovered and sent to the morgue. A wrongful death case has been registered in this incident. Further legal action will be taken after the autopsy report is received. However, it is not possible to say how he died at the moment.’

Urmi’s father, Golam Kibria, said, “At night, Bei Hashem Shah told on mobile phone that Urmi was taken to Gangni Health Complex as she was sick. When asked about the cause of the illness, he said that Urmi had put a noose on the window of the house. After getting the news, I came to the health complex and found out that he had died long ago.’

Golam Kibria claimed, ‘Urmi’s body has injury marks. He is being killed and covered up as suicide. When the police were informed, the body was recovered and taken to the police station.
