BNA, Dhaka: A motorcycle rider was killed after being hit by a covered van at Shanir Akhara in Jatrabari of the capital. Two other people including a child on the motorcycle were injured.
The police said that the accident happened on Friday (September 2) around 11 o’clock. The name of the deceased motorcycle rider is Iqbal Hossain (32). He was a contractor. The injured person’s name is Moshiur Rahman. He is the elder brother of the deceased. Iqbal’s three-year-old son Sajid Ahmed survived the accident.
According to the Dhaka Medical College Hospital sources, Iqbal was brought to the Dhaka Medical College Hospital yesterday with serious injuries and the doctor declared him dead.
Sarwar Hossain, another brother of the deceased, said that Iqbal Hossain used to live with his family in Motijheel AGB Colony. He was in the contracting business. On Friday morning, he took his son Sajid from his home in AGB Colony to another brother Moshiur Rahman’s house in Jatrabari’s Shanir Akhara. The accident happened while returning home in Motijheel at night. Moshiur was driving Iqbal forward on a motorcycle.
Based on the statement of the injured Moshiur, Sarwar Hossain said that after coming out of the house with the motorcycle, it started raining suddenly. Moshiur then stopped the motorcycle in front of the passenger tent. At that time, a covered van hit the motorcycle from behind and Iqbal fell on the right side of the road. Then the covered van hit him. Son of Altab Hossain of Mirzaganj Upazila of Patuakhali District. Iqbal was the fourth among six brothers and four sisters.
Jatrabari Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mazharul Islam said that the family of the person who died in the accident did not take any legal action. After a written request by the family, the body was handed over to them without post-mortem.
