Wari Division of Dhaka Metropolitan Detective (DB) Police has arrested Mushfiqur Rahman Fahim (43), Joint General Secretary of Jatrabari Thana Jubo Dal, the main accused in the stabbing death of Awami League leader Abu Bakr Siddique Habu (37) in Jatrabari of the capital.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (DC) Ashraf Hossain of Goanda Wari Division confirmed the arrest to Jago News on Wednesday (August 31) night.

Before this, news was published in Jago News last Monday (August 29) under the title ‘Awami League leader killed – main accused Chhatra Dal leader still out of reach’. After that, the detective police arrested him.

DC Ashraf Hossain said that Mushfiqur Rahman Fahim, the main accused in the stabbing murder of Awami League leader Abu Bakr Siddique Habu in Jatrabari of the capital, has been arrested tonight. DB Additional Commissioner Mohammad Haroon Or Rashid will give details on this at a press conference organized at DMP Media Center on Thursday (September 1) at noon.

On August 17, Mr. Habur’s brother was killed. Bachchu Mia filed a murder case at Jatrabari police station as a plaintiff. 11 people are named in the case. So far five people have been arrested in connection with this murder. The five accused arrested in the complaint are – the main accused Mushfiqur Rahman Fahim, Falan alias Kana Falan, Md. Salim, Md. Al Amin and Sujan Akon.

The investigating officer of the case, Jatrabari Police Station Sub-Inspector (SI) Mamun Matubbar told Jago News that among the five arrested, Falan, Salim and Al Amin have given a confessional statement under Section 164. DB has arrested the main accused. The main mystery of the murder will be revealed by taking him on remand and interrogating him.

The remaining seven defendants in the murder case are – Md. Shakeel, Moj aka Mojo, Md. Kabir, Md. Samu, Md. Parvez, Babu aka Bearded Babu and Sujan.

According to the statement of the case, Abu Bakr Siddique Habu was a raw material trader. He was the president of Awami League unit number 14 of ward number 50. On the night of August 16, on his way back home from the shop, when he reached Shahid Farooq road area, some people including Fahim stabbed him. He was seriously injured. Later he was rescued and taken to Dhaka Medical College (DMEC) hospital where the doctor on duty declared him dead.

Abu Bakr family lived in Tanpara of Jatrabari area. He has three sons. Their village home is in Nanda of Damudya Upazila of Shariatpur.
