Advice on regular monitoring of remittances sent through banks
Dhaka, September 20, 2022 (BSS): In the meeting of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on the Ministry of Expatriate Welfare and Foreign Employment, the Ministry has been advised to regularly monitor remittances sent through banks.
The meeting was held at Sangsad Bhavan under the chairmanship of Committee President Anisul Islam Mahmud.
Committee members Expatriate Welfare and Foreign Employment Minister Imran Ahmed, Moazzem Hossain Ratan, Mrinal Kanti Das, Begum Ayesha Ferdaus, Pankaj Nath, Md. Sadek Khan and Md. Iqbal Hossain participated in the meeting.
In the meeting, the latest situation of the labor market was discussed in detail to increase the range and mobility of the labor welfare wing of Bangladesh embassies abroad, search for new labor markets including Greece, Romania and send workers.
In the meeting, emphasis was placed on ensuring safe, orderly and systematic immigration besides being more aware during travel and arrival abroad. For this reason, it is recommended to the Ministry to keep the insurance system active and strengthen the system of foreign workplaces considering the safe life of expatriates in the field of foreign employment.
In the meeting, it was suggested to take initiatives to reduce the gap between curb market and bank exchange rate in a legal way to maintain the flow of remittances by creating an opportunity for a large number of manpower to go abroad at a low cost to Malaysia and other countries.
Technical training centers are being run under BMET to provide assistance to unemployed youth. The committee was informed that the remittance rate has already been increased from 2% to 2.5%.
The meeting was attended by the additional secretary of the Ministry of Expatriate Welfare and Foreign Employment, the heads of various departments and organizations and the relevant officials of the Ministry and the Parliament Secretariat.
