After a long wait, the operation theater of Kamarkhand Upazila Health Complex of Sirajganj was opened. On Wednesday morning after 41 years of establishment of the hospital, obstetrician Hafiza Khatun, wife of Swapan Sarkar of Jatibari village of the upazila, was officially operated by caesarean section.
The opening of the operation theater has created great enthusiasm among the hospital officials and locals. Civil surgeon Rampad Roy, upazila parishad chairman SM Shahidullah Sabuj, upazila health and family planning officer during the inauguration of the operation theater. Mohammad Ibrahim and others were present. Earlier, on August 23, the local parliament member Professor Dr. announced the operation theater in the coordination meeting of the Upazila Health Management Committee. Habibe Millat Munna.
Upazila Health Complex sources said that the Upazila Health Complex was inaugurated on January 11, 1981. Later, a new building was built at a cost of about 6 crore rupees and inaugurated on April 4, 2014, increasing the capacity from 31 beds to 50 beds. In the same year, an operation theater was installed in the new building and equipment worth about 30 lakh rupees was purchased. Although there were necessary equipments for the operation theater, the operation could not be started due to the lack of a designated doctor for the operation.
Swapan Sarkar, the husband of Hafiza Khatun, who underwent the first operation, said that we are very poor people. Daily wage earner runs the family. Due to my wife’s problem, free cesarean operation was done at Kamarkhand Hospital as she could not have a normal baby. If the operation was not started in this hospital, the operation had to be done in a private clinic or hospital with a loan.
Upazila Health and Family Planning Officer Dr. Mohammad Ibrahim said, after 41 years of long waiting, the operation has finally started. The operation could not be started in this hospital as there was no doctor related to the operation until now. As the operation has started in Kamarkhand, the patients of some neighboring upazilas will get free services from here. The award is given to newborns only when the child is delivered in this hospital.
It is to be noted that daily Ittefaq has repeatedly published pictorial reports about the suffering of patients and the loss of equipment worth 30 lakh rupees in Kamarkhand Upazila Health Complex. As a result, the health officials are shaken. And in this, after a long wait, the operation theater was launched.
