Sam Curran won the crucial toss as Punjab Kings took the lead against Kolkata Knight Riders in the 42nd over in intense light on Friday 2024. In a major change to their XI, Kolkata dropped their main pacer Mitchell Starc and replaced him with Dushmanta Chamera.
Starc cost INR 2,475 crore but missed Kolkata’s starting XI due to a finger problem. Chamera joined the Kolkata training camp as a replacement for Gus Atkinson and will play the first game of the season.
Captain Shreyas Iyer revealed that the Australian star had cut his finger in the final match against Royal Challengers Bangalore in Kolkata.
“I am most happy this season that everyone has done well and performed well,” Shreyas Iyer said after conceding the goal. “Whatever the situation, under pressure, they will try their best. Stasi had a finger injury in the last match and Dushmant Chamera came on. We hope to continue with the same form and pace.”
Kings XI Punjab, meanwhile, also made a big change to their starting XI: Jonny Bairstow replaced England star Liam Livingstone. Spinner Rahul Chahar was also kept in the playing eleven, forcing Pravsimran Singh to be named among the substitutes.
