5 members of the family of Shamser Ali, who were killed by lightning, were buried together in Shibpur village of Ullapara Municipality of Sirajganj. Mourning is going on at the house of the deceased. The tears of the bereaved cannot be stopped.
On Thursday afternoon, 9 people were killed in a Shalom machine house in the field of Matikora Dakshinpara village of Panchkroshi Union of Upazila. 4 others were injured.
Agricultural laborer Shamser Ali along with his family members Afsar Ali, Shaheen, Mobakshar and Monnaf Ali were buried at Shibpur village graveyard of Ullapara Municipality on Thursday night. At the same time, the deceased Abdul Quddus, Shah Alam, Ritu Khatun and Jannati Nadi of Matikora Dakshinpara village were buried in the village graveyard. At this time the people of both the villages and surrounding areas burst into tears.
Before the lightning incident, all the dead and injured were working on lifting and planting rice seedlings in the field. Suddenly it started raining. Everyone ran for their lives and took shelter in a shallow machine room in the field. Within a few moments, they were killed by lightning at the shelter. Ullapara fire service personnel rescued the injured and admitted them to Ullapara 30-bed hospital and Sirajganj Sadar Hospital.
5 members of Shamser Ali’s family died in this tragic accident in Shibpur village of upazila. When Shamser Ali went to his house on Friday, his bereaved wife Shanti Khatun was crying and said that her husband Shamser Ali and her son Shaheen were the breadwinners of the family. Both died. Shanti Khatun was asking everyone how his family will run now.
Meanwhile, after the accident Ullapara Member of Parliament Tanveer Imam went to the families of the victims and expressed their condolences. He also provided financial support to the families.
Ullapara upazila executive officer. Ujjal Hossain said that every family killed by lightning Sirajganj Deputy Commissioner Dr. Farooq Ahmed has announced to pay 25 thousand rupees. This money will be paid to the families quickly through the upazila administration.
