The Asia Cup is governed by the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) and the Champions Trophy by the ICC. Despite India’s strong position in the global cricket body, it will not be easy to take the Champions Trophy to a hybrid model or a neutral venue, the BCCI said, ‘BCCI has to get government permission for any tour. But our relationship with Pakistan is not good. Deciding not to call the Champions Trophy an ICC tournament would be difficult. But there is nothing to do without the government’s order or green signal. And I will say about the bilateral series, it is almost impossible for such a thing to happen in the near future.’

India–Pakistan last played a bilateral series in the 2012–13 season. Now if India does not go to Pakistan in bilateral series as well as in ICC tournament, what will be done by PCB is being thought in advance. A PCB source told IANS yesterday, ‘There is a clear discrepancy between the comments of Rohit Sharma and the BCCI source. It is understood that the players do not have a problem with cricket, they want to play. But the political leadership of India is always creating trouble.’

Pakistan last hosted the ICC tournament in 1996, which was the jointly hosted World Cup.
