The administration of Rajshahi University (Rabi) is changing the routine of classes and examinations in accordance with the rules announced by the government recently. The bus schedule has also been changed. But the new bus schedule has been a disaster. Students are suffering.
According to the sources of the transport department, according to the new rules, the class examination of the university has been kept on from 8 am to 3 pm. In the old routine, there were four trips for buses on different roads, but now the university administration has reduced two trips to save fuel. At present there are only two bus trips reserved for students — at 7:30 am and 3:30 pm. As a result, the suffering of students has reached extreme levels while following the new routine.
Talking to the students, it is known that many of the classes end by 1 pm. Many people are far from home. Many go away and teach tuition. Bus is the main means of transportation for these students. They are in trouble.
Lima Akhtar, a second-year student of the social work department of the university, told Jago News, ‘The class was from 10 am yesterday. There were also practical classes. Couldn’t attend any. How to go from so far? It will take 50 taka to go to the campus by rickshaw. There are many other students like me who are unable to attend class due to this problem. University administration has added to the suffering by reducing bus trips.’
Majidul Islam, a second year student of the Department of Plant Science, said, ‘It is the same whether there is a bus or not in this schedule. Time is very valuable in a student’s life. Putting ordinary students in danger is not justified at all. If you want to save electricity and fuel, the administration should keep the ACs of the department off full time.
In this regard, Transport Administrator Mokchidul Haque said that we have temporarily reduced two trips according to the rules of the university administration to save energy. This problem occurs as the class routine changes and the bus schedule changes at the same time. But we hope that the students will overcome this crisis at the earliest.
University Vice-Chancellor Prof. Sultan-ul-Islam said, ‘The students were under a rule for a long time. This problem has arisen due to sudden changes. But we are aware of the problem. I hope this problem will be solved in a few days.’
