A student of Eden Women’s College in capital Dhaka has been on hunger strike for three days at her boyfriend’s house in Tano Upazila of Rajshahi demanding marriage.
When the matter went viral on social media Facebook on Saturday, it created a sensation in various quarters. The college student claims that they met in 2018. And since then they got involved in a love relationship.
According to related sources, the lover’s name is Jewel Rana (25). His house is in Chanduria village of Tanor upazila of Rajshahi. Father’s name is Rezaul Islam. Rana works in a pharmaceutical company in Dhaka. Currently he is staying in Dhaka. And the girlfriend’s name is Ayesha Akhter Rumi (23). Although she is a Jhalkathi girl, she lives in Dhaka for her studies. Rumi is a student of Islamic history and culture department of Eden Women’s College, Dhaka. Besides studies, he also works part-time in a showroom.
According to a local source, Jewel Rana recently married a girl from Naodapara area of Rajshahi city. After learning about this, college student Rumi wants to go to her boyfriend Jewel. At this time, Jewel denied their love affair. In the end, the lover Rumi went to Jewel’s village house and stayed.
Meanwhile, according to police and local sources, the student reached the home of Jewel Rana village on August 30. After fasting for three days, he fell ill and was admitted to the Upazila Health Complex. Besides, his family was contacted, but there was no response, the police said.
Rumi claimed that they met at a music event in Dhaka’s Hatirjheel in 2018. Which eventually leads to love.
He also said, I want to marry Jewel. I don’t mind if he has a wife. However, Jewel Rana has not received any statement in this regard.
Tanor police station officer-in-charge (OC) Kamruzzaman Mia told Naya Digant that on August 30, the police rescued the college student and admitted her to Tanor upazila health complex. The girl is currently undergoing treatment there. However, the girl’s brother was contacted and asked to come, but there was no response.
He also said, as far as it is known, their love relationship has been separated several times, but later it gets back together again. Both families have known about the incident for a long time.
He said that since the whole incident happened in Dhaka. The boy is also in Dhaka. And in this regard, no complaint has been made by the girl to the police station. So for now there is no opportunity to take legal action on behalf of the police.
