Royal Challengers Bangalore stunned crowd favorites Sunrisers Hyderabad with a stunning all-round performance to register a 35-run win in the IPL at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium on Thursday.

RCB’s bowling performance was a reminder of how vulnerable SRH’s batting line-up can be with accurate, if not unbeatable, bowling, giving other teams hope as the tournament draws to a close.

Off-spinner Will Jacques needed 207 to win as he knocked out the dangerous Travis on the sixth ball of the innings.

Soon, left-arm debutant Abhishek Sharma’s cameo ended as he mistimed Yash Dayal wide, leaving him caught behind. Left-arm spinner Swapnil Singh then dismissed Aiden Markram, trapping him lbw on a full toss.

Heinrich Klaasen came back on top by hitting Swapnil’s previous ball for a six over long-on but unfortunately he perished trying to repeat the knock.

Later, leg-spinner Karn Sharma, bowled by Nitish Kumar Reddy, missed a reverse sweep, and then returned the ball deftly to remove the dangerous Ah Abdul Samad to reduce SRH to 85 for 6 in 9.1 overs.

The rest was routine and RCB secured a long awaited win.

Earlier, Rajat Patidar’s brilliant performance in the order, Virat Kohli’s understated half-century and Cameron Green’s cameo helped RCB choose their batting and post a challenging score.

Strangely, after the powerplay, Kohli struggled to find the form he wanted but failed to score.

However, Patidar was superb at the other end, hitting a 20-ball fifty in the 11th over, hitting leg-spinner Mayank Markande for four massive sixes.

Jaydev Unadkat was the pick of the bowlers and his three-wicket haul, along with the prize scalps of Patidar and Kohli, slowed the pace of the game.

RCB scored 64 runs in the last five overs, losing three wickets largely due to Green’s power-hitting.
