A Chhatra League activist named Rakib Hasan was hacked to death in Rupganj of Narayanganj by the opponents.

The murder took place at Kathpatti area of ​​Golakandail of the upazila around 9 pm on Wednesday. The deceased Rakib Hasan is the son of Haruk Mia of Golakandail area.

According to police and eyewitnesses, Golakandail Union Sramilig leader Delwar Hossain had a conflict with Rakib, a local Chhatra League activist who was killed for a long time. Due to their conflict, a group of 8 to 10 people attacked Rakib with indigenous weapons including ramda, chapati along with a motorcycle at 9 pm.

In the meantime, he was cut with a knife on his head, hands and body and made him bleed. At one point, when Rakib fell to the ground, they fled.

Later relatives and locals rescued him and took him to Upazila Hospital where doctors on duty declared him dead.

District Senior Assistant Superintendent of Police Abir Hossain said that the deceased’s body has been sent to Narayanganj General Hospital morgue for autopsy. An operation is underway to arrest those involved in the murder.

Meanwhile, followers of the slain Rakib got angry and set fire to the house of accused Delwar at around 11 pm. 6 tin sheet houses and a shop were gutted in the fire. On receiving the information, police and RAB and fire service members went and brought the situation under control around 1 am.

However, no casualty was reported in the fire.
