Awami-Youth League attack on MP Bablu of Bogra-7 Constituency

It has been alleged that Awami League and Jubo League activists attacked Md. Rezaul Karim Bablu, Independent Member of Parliament of Bogra-7 Constituency, while he was going to participate in the Law and Order Committee meeting at Shajahanpur Upazila Parishad Building in Bogra.

At that time MP’s PA Salim Reza was injured in the fight and admitted to Shahid Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital. Then the police brought the situation under control.

The incident took place outside the upazila executive officer’s room during the law and order committee meeting in the upazila parishad hall on Wednesday morning.

It is known that there was a meeting of the law and order committee of the Upazila Parishad on Wednesday. The meeting started in the hall adjacent to the office of the Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) around 10:30 am.

In this regard, MP Bablu said that due to the Corona situation, he could not attend any meeting for a long time. He went to Upazila Parishad to participate in the law and order committee meeting on Wednesday. But the meeting started before he arrived. He was then waiting in front of his office door to talk to UNO Asif Ahmed. At that time some people including personal assistant Reza and car driver were with him. Upazila Jubo League Acting General Secretary Badsha Alamgir along with 4-5 leaders of Jubo League suddenly came in front of the door of UNO and attacked him at around 10 am.

He said, when the people who were with me tried to save me after realizing the matter. Then Jubo League leader Badsha Alamgir hit my PS on the head with a rod. His head exploded. At one point upazila chairman Sohrab Hossain Channu came and pushed me. On receiving the information, the police rescued us and took us to the police station and sent the injured Salim Reza to the hospital. I am a member of parliament. I was attacked in the Upazila Parishad. But even then UNO did not visit me and did not look for me. He also said, I have informed the national parliament.

Regarding the complaint, Shajahanpur Upazila Parishad Chairman and Upazila Awami League Acting President Sohrab Hossain Channu said, ‘MP has nothing to do with me. Upazila Jubo League General Secretary MP PS had trouble. There was an uproar about it. At one stage of the incident, the MP took the licensed (marked) weapon. However, Acting General Secretary of Shajahanpur Upazila Jubo League Badsha Alamgir denied the allegations of attack on MP Bablu or his PS.

MP Bablu said, “I took out my licensed pistol in self-defence.”

Shajahanpur Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Abdullah Al Mamun said that no one has filed any complaint in the incident yet. Complaints will be investigated and action will be taken.
