The police have filed a case against 501 BNP leaders and activists including former member of parliament Abdul Gafur Bhuiyan for obstructing government work, attacking and damaging property and vandalism in Comilla’s Nangalkot. 19 activists have been arrested in this incident.

Nangalkot police station sub-inspector (SI) Yamin Suman said that the arrested were sent to Millar court on Thursday afternoon. Earlier, Sadhan Chandra Nath, Sub-Inspector of Police Station filed the case on Wednesday night.

The arrested are District BNP Joint Convener and Upazila BNP Convener Nazir Ahmed Bhuiyan, Member Secretary Anwar Hossain Chhota Nayan, Municipal BNP Convener and Former Municipal Councilor Anwar Hossain Mukul, Upazila Chhatra Dal Ex-President and Ex-Chairman Mazharul Islam Chupu, Upazila Youth Dal Ex-General Secretary and Former Chairman Kalim Ullah, former Upazila Chhatra Dal President Salim Jahangir Montu and some others.

SI Yamin Sumon said that from Wednesday morning to noon, BNP leaders and activists ransacked Nangalkot upazila headquarters in the name of protest march. When the police tried to stop them, they got angry and attacked the police. Five policemen including the OC were injured. At this time, the car of Circle ASP was also vandalized. In this incident, on Wednesday night Nangalkot Police Station Sub-Inspector (SI) Sadhan Chandra Nath mentioned the names of 51 people and filed a case against 400 to 450 others.

It is to be noted that BNP organized a protest march and rally in Nangalkot upazila headquarters on Wednesday morning to protest against the increase in the price of commodities including fuel oil. To participate in the rally, the leaders and activists of various unions gathered at the rally venue with a procession. Around 10 am, when the leaders and activists came out with a protest procession, they clashed with Awami League leaders and activists in the area of ​​Paurbazar Railgate and Lotus Chatwar. For two hours, the two groups continued to chase each other. Hundreds of leaders and activists of both parties were injured in the police station, school students. The police fired tearshells and live bullets to bring the situation under control. A few tearshells fell inside Arifur Rahman Government High School. At least 27 students were injured.

Meanwhile, 16 more students fell ill when they went to school for class on Thursday morning. Immediately the headmaster of the school admitted them to the upazila health complex. Also announced school holidays.
