Bangladesh and Mauritius have expressed interest in increasing bilateral trade and investment. Important discussions have also been held on this issue.

Bangladesh Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting Mohammad Ali Arafat held a bilateral meeting with the country’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Regional Integration and International Trade Affairs Monish Gobin on Wednesday (April 24) local time of Mauritius.

During the meeting, important discussions were held on increasing bilateral trade and investment between the two countries. Meanwhile, the Minister of State for Information of Bangladesh urged the Foreign Minister of Mauritius to invest in the Special Economic Zone of Bangladesh.

The Minister of State for Information informed the Foreign Minister of Mauritius that Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina considers the relationship between the two countries very important, noting that there are many similarities between Bangladesh and Mauritius in terms of anthropology and culture.

In the meeting, the State Minister discussed with the Foreign Minister of that country about the recruitment of more workers and professionals from Bangladesh to Mauritius. Besides, he sought the cooperation of the Mauritius government so that the Bangladeshi workers working in Mauritius can send remittances to the country quickly.

As Mauritius is the gateway to the African continent, State Minister Mohammad Ali Arafat highlighted the possibility of increasing Bangladeshi investment in Africa through Bangladesh’s investment in the country. After the meeting, he invited Manish Gobin to visit Bangladesh.

Minister of State for Information Mohammad Ali Arafat is currently in Mauritius to participate in the first Ministerial Conference on Drug Trafficking and Drug Abuse in the Western Indian Ocean Region.
