The main accused is Saddam Hussain
Chittagong: Jubo League leader Md. Jubo League leader Md. was the main accused in the attack on the journalist while recording the video of the conflict between the two sides over the spread of dominance in the city’s Doublemooring police station. The court sent Saddam Hussein to prison.
The court of Chittagong Metropolitan Magistrate Kazi Shariful Islam gave this order on Wednesday (April 24).
Salim Ullah, staff cameraperson of Chittagong office of Channel 24, was injured in the attack. Earlier, the police arrested 7 people after this incident in Mansurabad of Doublemooring police station of the city on the night of April 21. However, it is known that they got bail after appearing in court on the afternoon of April 22. After the attack, the injured journalist Salim filed a case with the city’s Doublemooring police station, mentioning the names of 8 people including Saddam Hossain.
Chittagong District PP Advocate Sheikh Iftekhar Saimul Chowdhury, the lawyer for the plaintiff in the case, told Banglanews that the accused in the case of attack on the journalist while recording the video of the conflict between the two sides over the expansion of dominance in the Mansurabad area. Saddam Hussain surrendered to the court and applied for bail. After the hearing, the court did not grant the bail application and ordered to send him to jail
Additional PP Mohammad Mohsin, Azharul Haque, Mahtab Uddin, Azmul Huda, Nazmul, Ansarullah Sourav, Krishna, Sheikh Sourav and Farhan assisted in the case management.
According to Salim, who was injured in the attack, Salim faced a clash in Mansurabad on his way back home from office last Sunday around 10:30 pm. At this time, he started recording videos to collect news. Seeing that, Saddam and his followers at the scene started beating him. At one point, he tried to kill him with a knife. As the natives advanced, the attackers retreated. Salim said that the attack caused severe injuries to his eyes and leg ligaments.
Meanwhile, Chittagong Union of Journalists (CUJ) strongly condemned the terrorist attack on journalist Salim Ullah while performing his professional duties. He demanded that the terrorists involved in the attack from the protest rally be arrested and brought to justice quickly.
