A group of miscreants killed a volunteer by attacking Ukhia Rohingya camp in Cox’s Bazar.
The murder took place in Rohingya camp number 18 Palongkhali in Ukhia on Wednesday morning.
Assistant Superintendent of Police Operations Mo Farooq Ahmed of 8 Armed Police Battalion (APBN), who is in charge of security in Ukhia Rohingya camp, said that a group of miscreants attacked the volunteers guarding H51 block of Rohingya camp No. 18 at around 4 am on Wednesday morning. The miscreants fired several rounds and seriously injured the volunteer Mo Zafar (35).
APBN police and ordinary Rohingyas took the injured Jafar to the nearby MSF hospital where the doctors on duty declared him brought dead. Deceased Zafar is the son of deceased Badiur Rahman of Block H 51 of Rohingya camp number 18.
Assistant Superintendent of Police Farooq Ahmed also said that the deceased Zafar was a volunteer. At night he regularly took turns guarding the camp. A group of 20/25 miscreants coming from the direction of Camp No. 17 shot Zafar and killed him by cutting his head.
He said that immediately after the incident, the APBN police started the operation. At present the situation in Camp-18 is normal. Police patrol continues.
Camp security has been beefed up with strong checkposts, round-the-clock patrolling and block-raids at camp entrances. The police are continuously conducting operations to arrest those involved in the murder. He said that a case is being filed by the victim’s next of kin at the Ukhia police station.
