Bangladesh is going to get a loan of two billion dollars (about 21,600 crores in Bangladeshi currency) from the Asian Development Bank (ADB) in the current financial year to advance the ongoing development projects. After the implementation of the Padma bridge, the government is making joint investments in the country’s electricity and energy, ports, road communication, information technology and service sectors.
Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal has expressed hope that it will be possible to advance the development project with this ADB loan. ADB loan is also expected to ease the dollar crisis. Apart from this, ADB’s Country Director Edimon Ginting has announced that he will stand by Bangladesh in the implementation of any development project.
Edmon Ginting met Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal at the Secretariat on Tuesday. At that time, the issue of ADB’s loan came into discussion. In addition to providing two billion dollar loan for the current financial year, the organization announced to stand by Bangladesh in the future. The finance minister said that in line with the development goals of the government, about two billion dollars of loan assistance is under process for the development projects in this financial year.

Later, a press release was also issued in this regard from the Ministry of Finance. The Ministry of Finance has informed that in the current fiscal year 2022-23, the Asian Development Bank (ADB) will provide loan assistance of about two billion US dollars to Bangladesh. This money will be spent on government development projects. The loan money will be allocated within the current financial year.
Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal praised ADB for its speedy assistance in Bangladesh’s socio-economic development and especially in overcoming the harmful effects of Covid-19. ADB has so far provided USD 27.555 billion in loan assistance to the Bangladesh government. Apart from this, the Finance Minister thanked ADB for providing assistance to Bangladesh in order to overcome the possible economic impact of ADB due to the outbreak of coronavirus.
He said that ADB should provide more development assistance to meet the challenges of transition from LDCs to developing countries. It is necessary for Bangladesh. He emphasized on the continuation of such cooperation between Bangladesh and ADB in the future to achieve overall development goals.
The finance minister said that his daughter Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is working tirelessly to fulfill the dream of the father of the nation to build Sonar Bangla. Sheikh Hasina is working to make Bangladesh a developed and prosperous country by 2041 through efficient, competent and strong leadership. At that time, the country director of ADB praised Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina for keeping the wheels of Bangladesh’s economy moving amid the Covid-19 pandemic.

He said that Bangladesh has set one of the best examples in the world in dealing with the situation of Covid-19 pandemic. The Country Director of ADB thanked the Finance Minister in advance for agreeing to participate in the 55th Annual Meeting of the ADB Board to be held on September 26-30. He also discussed the celebration of 50 years of relations between Bangladesh and ADB in 2023. He also appreciated the government’s activities for the social and economic development of Bangladesh.

Edimon Ginting said that ADB has strong relations with Bangladesh and ADB will stand by Bangladesh. ADB will continue to support the country’s rural and urban development and encourage investment in climate resilient development. In terms of development assistance in Bangladesh, ADB mainly focuses on power, education, transport, energy, water resources, agriculture, local government, good governance, finance and private sector.
