Today is 10 years of Narayanganj’s discussed 7 murders. Over the years, the families of the victims have obtained verdicts against the accused from lower courts. And the trial of this seven murder case has been pending in the Appellate Division of His Highness Supreme Court for seven long years.

The family members of the victim are disappointed because of the slowness of the verdict. Apart from this, the government has given various assurances about the help and cooperation at different times, but as it has not been implemented, 5 families out of 7 families are literally spending half-starved days. Many families have lost the only breadwinner and are now living a miserable life. Their only demand to the government is that the judgment of the high court should be implemented quickly.

On April 27, 2014, RAB abducted 7 people including Narayanganj City Corporation Panel Mayor Nazrul Islam and lawyer Chandan Sarkar from Lamapara area of ​​Dhaka-Narayanganj Link Road on their way back after appearing in a case in Narayanganj Court. Three days after the abduction, the bodies of seven people were found one by one in Shantinagar area of ​​Kalagachia Union of Shitalakshya River’s Bandar Upazila. In this regard, Selina Islam Beauty, the wife of the deceased councilor Nazrul Islam and the son-in-law of the deceased lawyer Chandan Sarkar. Vijay Kumar Pal filed two separate cases at Fatulla Model Police Station as the plaintiff.

Later, District and Sessions Judge Syed Enayet Hossain gave the judgment of this sensational case after 33 months after observing the confessional statement of the defendants and the testimony of the witnesses. In the verdict, 26 people were sentenced to death, and the remaining 9 were sentenced to life imprisonment. 25 convicts are RAB members. Later, when the defendants appealed against the verdict in the high court, the high court on August 22, 2017, Councilor Nur Hossain and the dismissed Lt. Colonel Tarek Saeed, Major Arif Hossain, Lieutenant Commander Masud Rana and 15 others upheld the death sentence. 11 were sentenced to life imprisonment and the remaining 9 were sentenced to various terms of imprisonment.

From 2014 to 2017, the trial of this judgment moved at a fast pace. But the case lost momentum when the accused appealed against the verdict in the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court. The case has been pending for the last seven years. The judgment is currently awaiting final disposition from the High Court to the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court.

Selina Islam Beauty, the plaintiff in the case and the wife of the deceased Nazrul Islam, said, “Although we are satisfied with the verdict of the lower court and the high court, we are expressing doubts because of the delay in the execution of the verdict.” He demanded the speedy implementation of this court verdict.

Advocate Sakhawat Hossain Khan, the lawyer of the plaintiff, said that the incident of 7 murders had shaken not only this country but also outside the country. There were demands for a fair trial from outside the country. The Narayanganj 7 murder case is currently pending in the Appellate Division of the Hon’ble Supreme Court. Some dangerous RAB members and Prabhasali former councilor are involved in this murder. The group has been lobbying for a long time so that the trial of this murder is not done. He expects that the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court, the High Court’s judgment will be upheld. He demanded from the state to hear and dispose of this case quickly and implement the judgment quickly.

Meanwhile, the public prosecutor (PP) Advocate Moniruzzaman Bulbul said that the lower court has completed the evidence and arguments in this case and the learned judge has given maximum punishment to the accused. He expressed hope that this judgment of the lower court will be upheld in the higher court.
