Dhaka: A child named Khadija Akhter (5) has died after falling from the roof of a house in Khilgaon Gogan of the capital. While trying to save him, his uncle Ishaq Mia (30) fell from the roof and was seriously injured.
The accident happened on Friday (April 26) around 2 pm. Both were seriously injured and admitted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital. Child Khadija died around 8:30 pm while undergoing treatment.
Fatema Begum, grandmother of Khadija who died in the hospital, said that their house is in Kanthalia upazila of Jhalkathi district. Khadija is the only child of father Faisal Ahmed and mother Hira Begum. Currently there is rent in a house at Gogan Nabi Mor.
The house has a few rooms on the five-story roof. He lives there with his son’s family and daughter’s family. But the railings on the four sides of the roof are very low. Khadija was playing on the roof with other children when everyone was busy with their work in the afternoon. When the child went to the side of the railing while playing, he fell out from there. Seeing this, his uncle Ishaq Mia, who was by his side, tried to save him. Fufa Ishaq also fell from the roof with the child and was seriously injured.
Both of them were rescued and admitted to Dhaka Medical. The child died there during the night under treatment. Ishaq Mia is admitted in the neurosurgery ward in critical condition.
Fatema Begum also said that the child’s father Faisal Ahmed works in a biscuit factory. Injured Ishaq Mia works as a mason’s assistant. His father’s name is late Judge Mia. Their home is in Sadar Upazila of Brahmanbaria. Wife Papia Akhter and two sons and a daughter live in the roof of the house in Gogan.
Dhaka Medical College Hospital police camp in charge (inspector) quoted the doctor. Bachchu Mia said that the child’s body has been kept in the morgue. The incident was reported to the Khilgaon police station.
