A farmer named Omar Ali alias Omar Mistry (55) tragically died while guarding the rising boro paddy field in Nalitabari, Sherpur.

The incident took place in Batkuchi Tilapara, a hilly village of the upazila at around 9 pm on Thursday (April 25). The deceased Omar Mistry is the son of deceased Tamiz Uddin of that village.

According to local sources, like every other day, Omar Mistry goes to guard his emerging boro paddy fields at night. Although there were many local farmers around at night, he was alone in the paddy fields inside the hills on Thursday night. In this situation, between 8:30 and 9:00 p.m., a group of wild elephants came down from the hill and suddenly attacked Omar Mistry. At that time, the elephant group took out the stomach and brain of Omar Mistry by twisting the trunk and crushing it under his feet and left.

After some time, the local people could not see Omar Mistry and went to the spot and found his dismembered body lying there. Locals said that during the day, groups of wild elephants were roaming in the nearby mountains including Chowkidar Tila and Sameschura.

Meanwhile, after receiving the information, the people of the forest department and the local UP chairman went to visit the spot.
