A semi-decomposed body of a housewife named Akalima Khatun (28) was recovered from a septic tank in Sherpur’s Jhenaigati. The police recovered his body from Debottarpara Dannerpar village of Malizhikanda Union of the upazila on Thursday (April 25) afternoon.
Rahmatullah, the housewife’s husband, has been arrested on suspicion of involvement in the murder. The victim of the murder is the daughter of Abdul Hakim of Pagalramukh village of the upazila. They got married about 13-14 years ago. They have two children in their family.
Police initially believed that the septic tank was thrown to hide Akalima’s body after she was killed due to a family dispute.
According to police and local sources, Rahmatullah recently got married for the second time. Akalima had a family dispute with her husband about this. A week ago, she was angry with her husband and moved to her father’s house. However, last Friday (April 19) Rahmatullah brought him from his father’s house to his own house in Debottarpara Dannerpar village. Since then Akalima was missing.
Meanwhile, on Thursday afternoon, the matter came to the attention of the local residents when a foul smell came out from the septic tank of a house in Dannerpar village and flies kept flying. When the police station was informed, the Jhenaigati police station went to the spot and recovered the half-melted body of Akalima Begum from the septic tank.
Inspector General of Police (Investigation) Iskandar Habibur Rahman of Jhenaigati Police Station said that her family will take legal action in the case of the murder of housewife Akalima. The body has been sent to the district headquarters hospital morgue for post-mortem to determine the cause of his death. Rahmatullah, the housewife’s husband, has been arrested on suspicion of involvement in the incident.
