Saleha Sultana Najma was working in the National Sports Council on Thursday like any other day. Initially he worked in PABX (Telephone Operator) but later he was posted in Accounts Branch. His sudden death while working today has created unrest in the Sports Council.

When Saleha lost consciousness, she was taken to the hospital after initial treatment, where she succumbed to her death around noon. The employees’ union held a protest rally demanding his removal and transfer, indirectly blaming the sports council’s colleague and union secretary Aminul Islam for his death.

After such an incident, there is a state of stagnation in the National Sports Council. There was a protest rally under the banner of the union. The slogan is They also wanted the removal of the secretary.

Khalilur Rahman, general secretary of the employee union, told Bangla Tribune, ‘As far as we understand, the new secretary sir did not want to give leave to everyone like that. The administration is very strict. If it is a little here and there, he complains and grumbles. Saleha asked for leave the day before, but was not given. But he was sick. Worked while sick due to fear of grief without getting leave. His mental condition was also not good. We could not stand by him when he was ill. Her husband had to be called and sent to the hospital. Because of Saleha’s unusual death, everyone is protesting for justice.’

They did not stop even with the protest rally. The eighth floor office of the National Sports Council tower has been locked. So that no one including the secretary can enter inside.

An official there, who did not wish to be named, said, ‘We will not open the lock of the office without his removal. The secretary should be transferred from here. The administration is strict. But it’s hard to accept bad behavior or act out of fear. It was such a situation that when Saleha fell ill, others could not even think of taking her to the hospital immediately. Because of fear. If this is the cause of mourning!’

However, the Secretary Aminul Islam denied all the allegations in the tense moments of the Sports Council. He directly told Bangla Tribune, ‘All the allegations against me are false. Why do I do mental torture? Everything is done according to government job rules and regulations. There is no opportunity to do anything personal here. Besides, if anyone wants leave, I grant it according to the rules. And Saleha’s leave application will be approved by the Assistant Director. i am not I know nothing about this. When I heard the incident, I asked the subordinates to stand by him. To do whatever is necessary.’

After that, this official said, “We are far behind in meeting the target of Sheikh Russell Mini Stadium. An advisory alert letter has been issued to the concerned project manager to strive to meet that target. In the interest of discipline in running the office, rules regarding dress and accessories have been asked to be followed. If I say more than that, it will be unfair to me.

In response to the demands of the employees’ union, this official of the government’s joint-secretary rank said, ‘I went to the Sports Council in the morning and left for other government work after a while. And did not go there. Now after listening to their demands I have informed my superiors. Now let’s see what happens. But I have not done anything to torture anyone. It seems something is going wrong.’

In a heated situation at the National Sports Council, Joint Secretary Sports Sanaul Haque from the Ministry of Youth and Sports came to observe the situation earlier in the evening. Union leaders raised all grievances with him. He assured them and said, ‘We have informed your statement to the Honorable Minister (Nazmul Hasan Papon) and the Secretary. They will review the matter and take further decision. You trust the minister and the secretary.’
