A schoolboy named Moshiur Rahman Huzzat (14) died while bathing in Brahmaputra river in Gafargaon, Mymensingh.
The incident took place on Thursday (April 25) in the College Ghat area of the Brahmaputra river in Gafargaon town.
Moshiur Rahman Huzzat was a ninth grade student of the local Rostam Ali Golandaz High School. He is a resident of Sadua village in Niguari union of Gafargaon upazila and currently a resident of Shilasi ward number 8 in the municipality and is the son of upazila Awami League leader Khalilur Rahman Rubel Master.
It is known that at this time another friend named Abdullah Al Araf (15) was injured. He is a class 10 student of the local Islamia Government High School. The injured Araf was first admitted to Upazila Health Complex and later to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital.
According to the police, friends of the deceased and local sources, without the knowledge of Huzzat’s family members, he played football in the government college field at noon and went to take a bath with his friends in the Brahmaputra river at the College Ghat area. Other friends were making videos of themselves jumping off the banks of the Brahmaputra river for Tik Tok while taking a bath.
At one point, he jumped into the river and disappeared. Later, when his friends shouted for help, the people in the vicinity searched for him and informed the police and fire brigade divers without finding him. On receiving the information, the police, fire service and Mymensingh fire brigade’s diving team recovered the body of the schoolboy from the accident area in a 4 and a half hour operation. This was confirmed by Ram Prasad Pal, station officer of the local fire service.
Jamiat Ali, the leader of the Mymensingh Fire Brigade’s diving team, said that we tried for about an hour and a half and recovered the dead body of the schoolboy Huzzat at around 5:30 pm and handed it over to the police station.
Gafargaon Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md. Shahinuzzaman Khan admitted the fact that the schoolboy drowned in the river while taking a bath with his friends.
