The court has sentenced a man named Rashedul Islam to life imprisonment for killing his wife Rehena Khatun in Maheshpur, Jhenaidah.
Thursday (April 25) at noon Jhenaidah Additional Sessions Judge Second Court Judge Md. Abdul Matin gave this verdict.
The convicted accused Rashedul is the son of Anich Uddin Biswas of Zululi village of Maheshpur upazila.
According to the details of the case, Rehena Khatun got married to Rashedul 21 years ago. After his second marriage, Rashedul started physically and mentally abusing his first wife, Rehena. Then on July 23, 2018, Rehena was killed by dipping the spade in the river near the house.
In this incident, the father of the victim, Matleb Ali, filed a case at Maheshpur police station. Later police arrested Rashedule. He gave a confessional statement in court.
After investigating the case, the police filed a charge sheet against the accused in the court. After a long trial, the court sentenced Rashedul to life imprisonment and fined Tk 20,000.
The court’s public prosecutor (PP) Bajlur Rasheed confirmed the verdict. He said, “We are happy with this verdict. The verdict given by the judge will reduce such incidents from the society and reduce violence against women.”
