The court has set April 29 as the date for filing charges against 33 accused including Ashraf Talukder, organizing secretary of Dhaka Metropolitan South Awami League in the case of shooting death of Awami League leader Zahidul Islam Tipu and college student Samia Afran Preeti in Shahjahanpur of the capital.
Today Thursday (April 25) was scheduled to hear the charge sheet in the case. On this day, the accused’s lawyers heard the plea of exemption. After the hearing, Judge Ali Hossain of Dhaka’s Special Judge Court-3 fixed a new date for the order to frame the complaint.
The accused in the case are – Dhaka Metropolitan South Awami League Organizing Secretary Golam Ashraf Talukdar, Dhaka South City Corporation Ward No. 10 Councilor and Awami League Leader Maruf Ahmed Mansoor, Underworld Top Terrorist Jisan Ahmed Montu, Freedom Manik alias Zafar, Chief Coordinator Suman Sikder Musa, Shooter Masum Mohammad Akash, Shamim Hossain, Taufiq Hasan aka BD Babu, Ward No. 10 Jubo League Expelled President Maruf Reza Sagar, BCL Former Convener Arifur Rahman aka ‘Ghatak’ Sohail, Motijheel Thana Jatiya Party Leader Zuber Alam Khan Rabin, Hafizul Islam Hafiz, Habibullah Bahar Former convener of College Chhatra League Sohail Shahriar, Mahbubur Rahman Titu, Nasir Uddin Manik, Mashiur Rahman Ikram, Yasir Arafat Saikat, Abul Hossain Mohammad Arfan Ullah Imam Khan, Sekandar Shikdar Akash, former general secretary of Motijheel Thana Chhatra League Khairul Islam Matbar, Abu Saleh Shikder, Kilar Nasir, Omar Farooq, Mohammad Maruf Khan, Ishtiaq Ahmed Jitu, Imran Hossain Jitu, Rakibur Rahman Rakib, Morshedul Alam Palash, Rifat Hossain, Sohail Rana, former leader of Ward Jubo League Aminul, Samsul Haider Uchhal and former president of Ward number 11 Kamruzzaman Babul.
According to the documents, Awami League leader Zahidul Islam Tipu was shot dead on March 24, 2022 at around 10:30 PM in Shahjahanpur in front of the butter showroom next to Islami Bank. Meanwhile, a college student named Samia Afran Preeti, who was in the rickshaw next to the car, was also killed. Besides, Tipu’s driver Munna was shot dead. After this sensational murder, Tipu’s wife, who was killed at Shahjahanpur police station, Farhana Islam Dolly, a reserved councilor of Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC), filed a murder case as the plaintiff. On June 5 last year, the investigating officer of the case, DB Police Inspector Yasin Shikder, accused 33 people and filed a charge sheet in the court.
