Student dies of heatstroke tomorrow

A student named Rushmia Zebin (16) died of heatstroke. He was studying in class 10 of BGB’s Birshrestha Munsi Abdur Rab School in Pilkhana, capital.

The deceased Rushmia Zebin is the daughter of Farid Ahmed, the chairman of Monir village of Battali Union of Anwara Upazila of Chittagong.

He was buried in the family cemetery after the funeral on Thursday (April 25) afternoon. He lived in Dhaka with his family.

The relative of the deceased, Moin Uddin Gafur Khokon, said that Rushmia Zebin was taken to a private hospital in the capital when she fell ill due to excessive heat on Wednesday afternoon. He died while undergoing treatment there. The doctor said he died of heat stroke.

The Met Office has issued a heat alert for three more days. The only hope of public life in these dire times is ‘rain’. Now the company has predicted the final good news. They say that after the heat alert ends, the trend of rainfall may increase in the northeastern part of the country in the middle of next week.

The information was given in the extended five-day weather forecast issued at 9 am on Thursday (April 25).

However, the Meteorological Office says that scattered rainfall is not enough to normalize the situation, rain over a wide area is needed. The concerned department believes that if the rainfall increases in the coming May, there may be some change in the fire condition.

Meanwhile, the weather forecast for the next 24 hours has said that there may be temporary rain or thunder with gusty winds in two places of Chittagong and Sylhet divisions, and there may be scattered hailstones at some places. Apart from this, the weather may remain dry with temporary partly cloudy skies elsewhere in the country.

Day and night temperatures may remain almost unchanged across the country during this time. Excess water vapor may cause discomfort.

Khulna division including Dinajpur, Nilphamari, Rajshahi, Pabna, Faridpur and Gopalganj districts are experiencing severe heat waves. Mild to moderate heat wave is prevailing over Barisal division including Mymensingh, Moulvibazar, Rangamati, Chandpur, Noakhali, Feni and Bandarban districts and remainder of Rangpur, Rajshahi and Dhaka divisions and may persist.

There is no chance of rain in other parts of the country except Sylhet region for the next two days. At the same time, the weather department has predicted that the temperature may increase slightly during this time.

A total of 16 districts of the country are experiencing severe heat waves. On Wednesday, the highest temperature in the country was 41.6 degrees Celsius in Mongla. The maximum temperature in Dhaka was 39.2 degrees Celsius.

State Minister for Education Begum Shamsun Nahar said that a decision will be taken regarding the opening of educational institutions considering the weather conditions.

He said this while talking to reporters at the secretariat on Thursday (April 25).

Shamsun Nahar said, the opening or closing of educational institutions will be decided after considering the weather conditions. In this case the decision will be taken tomorrow Friday or Saturday.

Earlier, on April 20, the Ministry of Education announced a seven-day holiday in all schools-colleges-madrasas of the country due to extreme heat. The educational institution was supposed to open on April 21 after the consecutive holidays of Roja Eid and Pahela Baishakh. As a result of this holiday, the educational institutions are scheduled to open on April 28. However, the intense heatwave in the country has not subsided yet, as a result, vacations in educational institutions may increase.
