The half-melted body of a housewife named Akalima Khatun (28) was recovered in Sherpur’s Jhenaigati upazila. The police arrested the husband Rahmatullah on suspicion of involvement in the incident.
Jhenaigati police station recovered his body from a septic tank in Debottarpara Dannerpar village of Malizhikanda union of the upazila on Thursday afternoon, April 25.
Housewife Aklima Upazila Debottarpara Dannerpar village Md. Rahmatullah’s wife and daughter of Abdul Hakim of Paglarmukh village. She is a mother of two children.
According to the police and local sources, about 13-14 years ago Akalima Begum of Paglarmukh village got married to Rahmatullah of Debottarpara Dannerpar village of Jhenaigati. Recently, Rahmatullah got married for the second time. A family dispute between husband Rahmatullah and wife Akalima was going on over this issue. A week ago, angry with her husband, Akalima moved to her father’s house. Then on April 19, Rahmatullah brought his wife Akalima from her father’s house to his house in Dannerpar village, Debottar. Since then Akalima has been missing.
Meanwhile, on Thursday afternoon, the issue came to the attention of the local residents when a foul smell came out from the septic tank of a house in Debottarpara Dannerpar village of the upazila and flies kept flying.
After receiving the news, the police of Jhenaigati police station went to the spot and recovered the half-melted body of Akalima Begum from the septic tank.
Inspector of Police (Investigation) Iskandar Habibur Rahman of Jhenaigati Police Station said that legal action is under process in this incident. The body has been sent to the district headquarters hospital morgue for post-mortem to ascertain the real cause of the housewife’s death. Rahmatullah, the husband of the slain housewife, has been arrested on suspicion of involvement in the incident. It is initially believed that she (Akalima) was killed and her body dumped in the septic tank due to a family dispute.
