The court sentenced a man to life imprisonment for killing his wife in Maheshpur upazila of Jhenaidah.
Additional session judge of the second court of Jhenaidah on Thursday. Abdul Matin announced the verdict in the presence of the accused, said State Attorney (APP) Sadatur Rahman Hadi.
Convicted Rashedul Islam is a resident of Zululi village of that upazila.
In addition to life imprisonment, he was fined Tk 20,000; Another three months imprisonment was imposed in default.
According to the documents of the case, Rehena Khatun got married to Rashedul 21 years ago. They have two sons. Rashedul was torturing Rehena since marriage.
Then Rashedul got married again. After the second marriage, Rehana increased the level of physical and mental abuse.
Then in the early morning of July 23, 2018, he killed Rehena by drowning him in the Kodla river near the house. Later, Rashedul announced that Rehena had drowned while taking a bath.
Five days after this incident, on July 28, Rehena’s father Matleb Ali filed a murder case against Rashedul at Maheshpur police station.
When the police arrested him, Rashedul gave a statement in court. After the investigation, the investigating officer submitted the charge sheet against him to the court.
After hearing the testimony, the court found him guilty and gave this verdict on Thursday.
